Political Parties’ Code of Conduct

Preamble

Noting the recent past of Sierra Leone and the need for continued peace, and given the desirability of free, fair, peaceful, well-regulated elections and the avoidance of aggravation of ethnic tension and political discord, we, the Political Parties of Sierra Leone will to a great extent be responsible for creating a conducive environment within which each citizen can exercise his/her democratic right to elect leaders that will govern them

The purpose of this code is to:

Guide the actions of all Political Parties in Sierra Leone before, during, and after the elections.
Outline acceptable and non-acceptable actions by parties, candidates, and their agents.
Facilitates conditions conducive to the conduct of free, fair, and democratic elections within a climate of democratic tolerance in which political activities may take place without fear of coercion, intimidation, or reprisals.

Successes

The PPRC has performed well in the discharge of its mandate through the promotion of democracy and building of a culture of peace within and among political parties.

Code of conduct

The Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC) is now referred herein as the Political Parties Regulation Commission through Constitutional Instrument No. 22 of 2022 and the Political Parties Act No. 25 of 2022.

Challenges

In a bid to achieve its mandate and the desire to unite and assist all political parties in their efforts to attain their aims and objectives, the Commission has been faced with several challenges; thus creating the opportunity for the reformation of the Political Parties Act.
